... ok, beat the crap out of it. But I don't think casinos are the prime culptits in this abuse of truth. The media is the prime perpetrator. Business finds itself in a "go along with the game or lose profits" no win situation. Except the Fiesta which obviously believed this crap with all their hearts <g>.
Seriously, there are those who believe it because everybody (i.e. the media) says it's so. There are those who know better but can't pass up a chance to make a buck on the hype. Hey, if they wait til the true millennium, they might just be just farting in the wind. Everybody'll probably be sick to death of "millennium" hype by then.
I wrote my letters to the editor, and got them published. Big yawn. You CAN fight city hall. But the media? Uncle!!
But I, for one, have not forgotten why I waste, er enjoy, untold hours at this hobby. It's the chips. And casinos have been releasing a s**tload of LEs. I can boycott them, or accept them for what they are... a glorious celebration of a momentous event... a year too early. That doesn't make them any less chips.
I beat my brains out trying to make St. Johns Oregon a better place to live. I'm not up for that kind of fight this year. I'll always stand up for what I believe, and speak my mind. Head up some hopeless campaign? Did you see how much sway I had with Archie over COTY? Give me a break. My fondest hope is we'll wait a year before we vote for COTM. I don't see any reason to rule out, or boycott, the false millennium chips.
