Geez, John B.; You didn't tell us about this!
According to a well placed article on page four of the current issue of NUMISMATIC NEWS (January 25, 2000)..... our own MARK LIGHTERMAN has been named Numismatic Ambassador by Krause Publications. Mark became the first recipient of the year 2000 of this prestigious award.
Presenting the award was Clifford Mishler, chairman of the board of Krause Publications, parent firm of Numismatic News. Lighterman, a Miami hobbyist, is currently vice president of FUN.
Mishler noted that Lighterman is called a "numismatist's numismatist" and is involved in a diversity of organizations. In addition to FUN, they include the American Numismatic Association, the Token & Medal Society and the Florida Token Society. He is currently TAMS Secretary and an ANA District Representative.
Lighterman is known for his exhibits and for his willingness to speak at shows and conventions. He wrote a book on Florida casino chips and is currently very involved in developing a numismatic presence on teh world wide web.
The Numismatic Ambassador Award was created by Numismatic News in 1974 to honor hobby volunteers who very often go without other honors.
