Let's assume (since we're talking rare) that there
were never any chip books published showng any
table/scale of what rare is. While knowing the
"recorded"
number of collectors in our community (approx.
2000-2400), what would we feel rare constitutes
knowing the "recorded" known quantity of any one
issue. I like incorporating the word "recorded"
along with "quantity known." It [12 recorded pieces
known] is more factual than 12-pieces known. At
what point would we consider any issue rare. BTW, I
fully agree with your thinking that if one person
controls an inventory doesn't necessarily mean that
item is rare. Let's completely exclude the diamond
market which would be a perfect example of
"control!" Just a general figure (level) knowing
what we consider important facts. Though some of us have responded to some posts as to what IS NOT rare, I don't think we have illustrated what IS rare.
