John; Enjoyed reading your horse story.... mine is slightly different. It goes something like this;
An old spinster woman, having no children of her own but was very fond and loving of her two horses, woke up one morning to find them dead in the stable from some unknown causes. Heartbroken and bewildered, as she had such a deep fondness and attatchment to her horses which she raised single-handedly as if they were her children, she could not bear to dispose of the carcasses in a traditional manner. So she rquested that a local taxidermist come visit her stable and asked if they could be preserved somehow. The taxidermist after viewing the remains replied; "yes, I can do that for you. Would you like to have them mounted"? "Heavens no", was the old woman's response. "Side by side would be just fine".
