A collector friend of mine, Milt Johnson, had a friend who
was a construction worker in LV. When the wall between The
Mint and Binion's Horseshoe was torn down to enlarge the HS,
thousands of chips from all over downtown LV were found in the
wall. The Mint, Horseshoe, FQ's, Golden Nugget, Golden Gate,
etc. had poured their obsoletes in the walls.
The workers filled their lunch boxes with chips and some were
arrested (I was told) for trying to play the tokens in the machines.
Milt traded me about 50 of the chips, of which were $1 Arrow Die FQ's
and a few good Mint 50 centers. Milt lived in LV for 4 years in the
80's and returned to NC where he passed away about 3 years ago.
