Hi Archie!
I have been busy putting together "treaty" reference books for the poker tournaments taking place or going to take place. Have to eat you know <g>.
Archie the point of my post was to establish three basic concepts.
1) Price guides with suggested prices are really not reliable for establishing what is or is not a "rare" chip.
2) First hand knowledge via observation involving a "chip" is the main criteria for establishing if it is possibly "rare". Notice I said possibly. You know as well as I somebody somewhere could be sitting with a box of any chip "we" as collectors have labeled as rare.
I have preached till I'm hoarse to new collectors - Look at binders and keep looking at binders until there are no more binders to look at <g>.
3) A collector MUST educate himself/herself as to what chips are "rare" regardless of the seller hype. Whether it be ebay or some other means of selling, you nor I or anyone else cannot and should not try to "police" every description someone posts. To do so discourages self-education and, in my opinion, the desire to gain knowledge independently. Just my opinions - take care Archie. Best, Jim
P.S. I have seen or heard of chips on ebay described as "rare" which truly are sell for next to nothing. I have also seen chips described as rare, that were not, sell for tremendous prices. Go figure!!!
