Another busy weekend in A.C. for chippers. I've scanned the newest millennium issues released over the last few days from Claridge, Caesars, Tropicana and Trump Taj Mahal. Hope this is the end of them, although I hear a rumor that Taj Mahal may release a $100 millennium sometime later this month .... after all, according to some quarters the millennium will be celebrated all year long (and even into next year if one listens to others).
The interesting thing about the $100 Tropicana chip is that according to the news release in this week's "Whoot" newspaper, "The lenticular design, which features a clock winding down to midnight and the words "Millennium 2000 Celebration", confetti and the Tropicana logo, will be available at 12 midnight on New Year's Eve only at Tropicana. Lenticular design captures the movement of each icon on the chip. As the clock winds down, the confetti flies and the Tropicana log disappears and reappears at midnight. This is the first time lenticular has been ustilized inthe collectible gaming chip industry."
"Just 500 of the $100 chips have been manufactured and will be offered for purchase on the casino floor. The purchase of these collectible chips is limited to one per person and the chips are expected to sell out immediately" <sure>. (I've tried to capture the movement by tilting the chip on my scanner bed but could not get the desired effect that occurs when tilting the same chip in my hand.)
There you have it gang... more hype from the casino industry. As of 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, when I left A.C. for my return home to Brick, there were still stacks of these $100 chips available for purchase at the same roulette table where I was rebuffed on New Years Eve from purchasing more than one chip. I slipped my returned $100 bill for the second chip to a young man seated next to me and told the pit boss to sell the second $100 chip to my "nephew" seated along side of me.... which he did.
The $25 Ceasars issue is another story unto itself. Not satisfied with issuing simply a Cher chip who was headlining at Caesars New Years Eve, and commemorating the festive occassion of the year 2000 on the reverse side.... Caesars issued another $25 2000 chip the following day.... utilizing the same design that appeared on the reverse of the Cher chip. The image below shows the common reverse design of both chips in the center of the three Caesars chips illustrated.
Meanwhile, "The Donald" hasn't changed. He's still hung up on himself and has his egotistical picture on one side of the Taj's Millennium chip. Can we expect more of "The Donald" photo chips should he officially announce his candidacy for President of the United States?
