... to replace the discussion of the Millennium (have to keep ourselves busy until it gets here NEXT YEAR). <g>
So, I thought this would be a good time to float a trial balloon about two of my other time related ideas:
(1) I HATE the way it gets dark so early in the day during the winter. So depressing. I propose that we modify our time zones to reverse the daylight savings time process by keeping daylight savings time during the summer, but going to DOUBLE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME during the winter. This would, of course, make sunset (and sunrise, too, for that matter) TWO HOURS later during the winter than it is under the current system.
(2) The different time zones create all kinds of confusion about when things happen. The WORLD TIMEKEEPERS attempt to remedy this problem by utilizing Greenwich Mean Time (GMT or Zulu to you JAG fans and military types) as the "official" time of the world [meaning, for today, that the New Year "officially" arrives world wide at midnight GMT, 7 pm EST, 6 pm CST]. With the advent of the computer age and instant communications, we no longer need time zones as we once did. I therefore propose that we do away with them completely and adopt a uniform time zone throughout the world (GMT works; any other would, too). It would be the same time of the same day everywhere in the world. This would mean that we'd have to adjust our thinking about such mundane matters as the work day (in order to be working during daylight, more or less, the work day in California would run from 4 pm until midnight -- which we might have to rename, too <g> since it would no longer be the middle of the night in most places).
