... anyway, Bob? You have posted before agreeing with Gene; you've said we are entering the 21st century this year; and yet you now seem to agree that we reach the new millennium next year. You have me confused! <g>
The century from 1-1-1901 to 12-31-2000 is called the 20th Century (even though most of it occurs in the 1900's <g>), because centuries are counted the same way we count our personal ages. During the first 100 years of the calendar, it was the first century (even though the years ran from 1-100). 1-1-101 started the second 100 years of the calendar (hence, the 2nd century). Same thing all the way down to 12-31-1900, with marked the end of 1900 years (or 19 centuries). On 1-1-1901, we started the 20th century, which will end on 12-31-2000.
On 1-1-2001, we start the 21st century (and the 3rd millennium, counting the same way). ----- jim o\-S
