Re: Storing and Displaying Chips

I think that these expensive binders are quite nice, especially if you have but a few hundred chips in your collection. But when one has several thousand, it can become quite costly. But then again, everything is relative and especally if your chips are comprised of the expensive variety, it may be of little concern to you.

Personally, I keep mine in 1 1/2" notebbook binders (which I purchased at Staples for $0.79¢ last year on sale) with 8 pages of plastic sheets (20 to a page, and each chip enclosed in one of the 2x2 cardboard holders.) And like Gene, I store mine in vaults and carry extra insurance for the times I might have them at home.

If you attend any of the chips shows, I think you will notice that most dealers use this same method of storing and transporting chips.

The other thing I find most helpful, is that I color photocopy all my chips twice a year, place them in three soft covered binders which I can carry around with me to all events/ shows/ meetings/etc. so I can check my collection against potential new trades or purchases to reduce the chance of duplicate purchases. Between my semiannual new copy process, I write in my book every new chip I receive.

Then to top it all off, I keep a list of my chips using Work perfect to match my photocopies and print out a new copy prior to each event I am going to attend.

Sound like a lot of work? Not at all. I love every bit of it and I do it as I go along. It's either this or get quartered another time with my ace/duece in Omaha or get my pocket aces beat at the river by some guy chasing a 7/2 off suit even after it's capped before the flop.
