I'm not aware of a $5 selling for $15 at any of the casinos. Of course we still have a few chips that haven't been issued. While Double Eagle is selling their set for $59+ tax ($62), Creekers is selling thiers at face ($41.50). Double Eagle put thier set in a plastic holder that most of us throw away while Creekers is in a box. Jazz Alley is indeed charging $10 for a $5 chip, they will also give you one if you "earn" 1,000 points in a day on their slot card.
Harvey's will not charge for their $1 Millenium chip, but you have to show your players card to get one and you can't get a second one.
Black Hawk/Central City Colorado gaming has apparently decided to stay out of this, but I am planning on returning a $5 chip to the cage and will file a gaming complaint if the don't return my $10. Cripple Creek gaming requires a casino to sell over face chips from the gift shop. Their concerns are accounting and skiming. If you can sell a $5 chip for anything you want from the cage, where is the accountability?
My biggest fear is that we have started a trend, a very bad trend. Casinos are in the business to take money from their customers and apparently they see chip collectors as just another sucker. This kind of crap will (and is) ruining our hobby.
