The auction was over and I would NEVER interfear with an on going auction. I thought there is no harm in offering a losing bidder the same item for less than he has bidded. I have taken up quite a few offers this way and it has saved me a few bucks!

I guess the old saying is true--All is fair in Ebay, Love, and War.
