If you thought I was defending intentional misuse of the word "rare", you missed the point of the post.
On the subjective/objective scale, "very old" is closer to a statement of fact than a statement of opinion and therefore would be more easily shown to be a misrepresentation.
By the way, have you contacted the seller to see if, just by chance, he made the claim in ignorance of the true status of the chip. Not all eBay sellers are as knowledgeable as you. Maybe he just made a mistake. When I write to sellers about things like this, I almost always start with the supposition that the seller just doesn't know any better and proceed accordingly until I have reason to believe otherwise. ----- jim o\-S
