According to a Mason casino supply catalog, the chip scan Greg has been posting lately is known as No. B-41 "Hub" Crest and Seal, and the chip I illustrate below is known as type No. B-42 Plain Inlaid Crest & Seal. The M&N inlay is most likely sealed with a protective film over the surface of the inlay to protect it, but the type chip seen below has no seal to protect the inlay (I don't know if the illustrated Marine Club chip is sealed)....and Mason called them both Crest and Seal. This Mason catalog page showing the M&N chip is found on page-17 of Dale Seymour's "Antique Gambling Chips - Revised Edition" and is also in Dale's original book. My "suggestion" is that we adhere to the description in Allan Myers' "Chequers Magazine" article for a true understanding of what a "Crest and Seal-type" chip actually is.
