... I guess. Maybe, like steak, he just meant that it wasn't very well done!! <g>
I do agree, though, that the term "rare" is overused and doesn't properly apply to this chip. On the other hand, if chip sellers are shifting over from coins, production runs of 2000 (or even 5000) might make the chips seem rare to them. After all, how would you characterize a current US coin with a mintage of 5000?
One feature of the Campiglia-Wells price guide (just can't bring myself to call it that "O" word) that I like is the Rarity Scale. For those who might not have seen it, it goes like this:
Rarity Scale Known Survivors
Unknown 0
Unique 1
R-10 Impossible 2-3
R-9 Exceedingly Rare 4-7
R-8 Extremely Rare 8-15
R-7 Very Rare 16-30
R-6 RARE 31-75
R-5 Very Scarce 76-150
R-4 Scarce 151-350
R-3 Fairly Common 351-750
R-2 Common 751-2000
R-1 Extremely Common 2000+
One could argue with the use of the phrase "Impossible", which seems to me to mean that it cannot, under any circumstances, be obtained (which is obviously not the case if there are 2 or 3 of them -- "Highly Unlikely" perhaps, but not "Impossible"). On the other hand, by this standard, there are damn few "RARE" chips out there and even fewer appearing on eBay. ----- jim o\-S
