John, if I inadvertenly said that I did not think dealers helped out collectors, I am totally and completely wrong and apologize. To the contrary, most of the information us newbies receive are from dealers as they are, in general, the most knowledgable, as they have been collecting the longest. The dealers are usually the first ones on the board with the answers to our question (along with Gene, Jim P. you (I don't know how you classify yourself) and many other "old timers." And I suppose one could extend that to meaning the offering of exotic, rare and other hard-to-find chips.
My concern is that the newbies are aware of other avenues in which to obtain their current chips at less of a price then they would be paying dealers that need to inflate their prices to stay in business. I can sell mine cheaply because I have no overhead and do not have to depend upon chip sales to meet my monthy expenses or fund my "habit." And contrary to other peoples opinions, I have a list of many people that feel the same way even though they my not wish to express their feelings publically. I will be more than happy to take the heat for them.
