No need to do that when I can get most all the chips I want at the price I feel is reasonable. If by any chance there ever was a chip that I just could not possibly live without, and only one person had it for sale at a high price, I would pay it. So far, however, out of the approximate 3,000 or 4,000 or so commemeratives I now have, less than a handful were purchased for an amount greater than $7.00.
Call me cheap, a bargain hunter, or whatever, this is how I operate and in turn I sell my duplicates for mostly the same price. Generally however, I obtain my chips through trading.
An example is I was able to purchase as many $1.00 Gold Mine chips as I wanted for $1.00 each. I see these same chips advertised for $25.00. What do you suggest I do? There are plenty of others on this board and in the club who will pay the asking price that some dealers think is fair.
I guess it all depends on ones definition of what "fair" is. I do know that if I had to pay $8.00 for a new issue chip, I would not be collecting many chips; as a matter of fact, I would probably stop collecting altogether. As it is, I think that possibly many or at least some of the commemerative chip collectors are having second thoughts about all the recent new issues being released during this past two or three months. It is getting to be expensive for some of us.
One last thought. When I requested a trade or to purchase the millennium chip for $7.00, this was not an attempt to critize your asking price. I care less what you ask or receive for any of your chips. I was just trying to get it from someone else at a lower price. If it so happens and I really doubt that it will be the case, that I am not able to get the chip for my price, I will do without it. I do have patience and it usually pays off. Someone, sometime will probably take the same cruise and eventually I will probably be able to make a trade. And as I said previously, if I don't get it, I don't think I will lose much sleep over it.
Your sarcastic remark was not necessary.
I guess the two factions in this club are at odds once again. The collectors and the dealers.
