I'm glad we're getting somewhere, Gene. I thought I was gonna have to whack you with that ruler to get it to sink in <g>! I'm not sure I agree with the statement, "We change the count system to whatever suits us depending on what we are counting." The problem seems to be a difficulty understanding the basic difference between counting and measuring. The confusion between age and year number is a classic example.
You don't have a foot until you have measured to the end of the twelfth inch - you must count 12 complete inches. You don't have a millennium until 1000 years have passed. Year 2000 is the 2000th year, the last year of the second millennium. If this sinks in to the chip designers along about next Ferbuary or March, as I'm just sure it will, we're bound to have another round of Millennium 2001 (the true millennium) chips!
