Re: On-line Auctions Growing Up!

Gentlemen, I have a question I'm sure only a novice collector such as I would ask. Why in the world would anyone pay prices such as I saw listed at the beginning of this thread for a chip unless he anticipated a ressale of said chip for a profit. Would a person buy a chip at 200 times its face value just to put into a collection?

It is true that up to a few months ago, I wouldn't even have considered paying over face value for a chip. Since then, I have acquired most of the current $1.00 and partials chips and many of the current $5.00 chips and found out that in order to enhance the size of my collection , I might have to pay a premium (like maybe $7.00) for a $5.00 chip. I even cringe at that. But $200.00 for a $1.00 chip. And I'd wager that even a tape of Kelly wasn't included.

Will someone please explain to me why my thinking is wrong.
