I'm no lawyer ... but I do wish to raise a very simple hypothetical question here for consideration and discussion. Suppose this lot was consigned by a well respected club member in good standing to the club auction in July 2000? Just suppose further that a half dozen interested bidders got together to do just what is being proposed here on the bulletin board. I'll bet there would be some howling and crying by the consignor how the club could allow this hypothetical out-in-the-open conspiracy bidding to go unchallenged at the Tropicana next summer. Wanna bet?
