Bob,
I'm not an insider, but I do make quite a few excursions to Laughlin. In fact, that's where I started collecting chips. Laughlin is in a world of hurt right now. Las Vegas hotel growth and Indian casinos have hurt their market greatly. I have received offers of comp nights from several of the hotels there, although I have only played much at one of the casinos, even then as a low-roller. At the Flamingo Hilton Laughlin my wife and I played nickel video poker for two days on our last visit. We were having a very relaxing weekend, so I approached the casino host requesting a comp night. Believe it or not, we got it!
If you stay there you will find a much more laid-back atmosphere than you find in LV. The buffets are nothing to brag about (Harrah's is the best), there are a few pretty good restaurants at three of the casinos. If you want any more info, e-mail me with any questions you have.
