Actually... <G> I've read so many "pass the buck" stories that I don't know which one is real anymore. The way I remember it (and this means I might be challenged to do some accurate research again) is that they had a Buck knife and it would be stuck in the table. After dealing, they would "pass the buck" to the next player...

But it was an American President who once said, "The buck stops here!" to express responsibility ends at the White House.
