Andy, I heard through the grapevine that Gene is trying to get his set personally autographed but is having a hard time (no pun intended) deciding where each of the ladies should sign their name. Reminds me a story. When Nolan Ryan was pitching for the Astros I & a friend went to the Texas Rangers training camp which was located in Pompano Beach. Ryan & the Astros were going to play an exhibition that day. He had field passes so off we went. Nolan was sitting on a seat next to the dugout chatting to Yogi Berra. Now try to get this picture; Nolan was leaning back on the chair with his legs spread wide open tossing a ball in the air. I asked him to pose for a picture & he said shoot away. I think he was sure that I was going to take a shot of his head, which I did, but also took a full body shot. We got pictures of some of the other players & then headed back to the lab to develop the negatives. My friend enlarged the full length shot & dared me to get Nolan to sign the picture. That same afternoon after the game was over, Nolan was doing some sprints in the outfield along with some of the other pitchers. When he walked past me he asked if I had any of the pictures I took that morning. I showed him some of the portraits & then showed him the picture on the chair. He chuckled & then let out a long laugh. I asked him if he wanted a copy of any of the pictures & he chose the one we were looking at. I asked if he could autograph one for me as well. Out came the blue Sharpie & he signed my picture along the crotch of his pants in an arch. I just love that picture.
