I might as well get my 2¢ worth of an opinion in here also.
Speaking as a dedicated, addictated collector of LE $5.00 chips, I too, am getting a little irritated at the number of LE's being produced. The coup de grace, in my opinion, was the issuance of the 10-set chips from the Nevada Landing and the Gold Strike. Although I use to get upset at Jim P. for labeling Limited editions as pogs, that is exactly what I think those two 10-set issues should be called.
At the present time, I am still going to continue purchasing LE's,(at least until after the new year which by that time most of the millennium and holiday chips will be issued) and then reevaluate the situation to see which direction the casinos are going with regard to the number of LE's they are going to manufacture.
I believe that others in my position (retired with a fixed income) feel the same way. For those of you still working with an unlimited disposible income, the higher denominations are fine. But the proliferation of these commemeratives within the past month or so might come back to haunt the casinos if a number of collectors decide that enough is enough.
On a related matter, I will not now or ever have an intention of collecting higher denomination chips, such as the $25.00 and $100.00 chip. My reasoning here is because if I were going to spend $25.00 or $100.00 on a single chip, I would rather purchase an obsolete chip whose value would appreciate much more rapidly.
