I too vividly recall your letter to the Editor back then Robert.... and the Editorial response I wrote then still applies today. If there are those who are hell-bent on collecting manhole covers..... or the current plethora of $25 chip in Las Vegas..... who are we to say they shouldn't? I personally stopped collecting Las Vegas and Colorado chips (with the exception of Hard Rock and the club convention issues) a couple of years ago when it became apparent to me that some of the stupid (in my mind) commemoratives being issued had nothing to do with the property ... or were being issued in such limited numbers that the secondary market was being manipulated by a certain few. That was my decision back then, and I have not regretted it since. Have LE's turned a lot of new collectors on to the hobby? Emphatically yes! Have the higher denominations turned off a lot of the veteran collectors. Emphatically yes, again! If the majority of collectors really want to curb what they consider to be abuses in the hobby, then they should seriously consider not purchasing chips they feel they are getting ripped-off on. On the other hand, if there are collectors who don't mind shelling out big bucks for 58 twenty-five dollar chips that have been recently approved in Las Vegas..... hey; knock yourself out and go do your thing! It's none of my business..... or anyone elses. Some folks drive Rolls Royces.... others drive Yugo's. Collect what you like and what you can afford. Everybody does not collect $100's either.... but there are quite a few who do. It's their choice.
