Re: Joe's (Gerlach) - What again???

Hi Terry!
I am not trying to throw a damper on your sale nor to discourage anyone from buying these chips. I merely wish to inform you and others of some relevant information.
If you remember correctly it was I who wrote the story about Joe's place in Gerlach, Nevada. I brought up the fact that it was Phil Jensen who managed to obtain a few samples of each denomination chip and where the chips ended up.
If you notice I do not write anymore articles involving places like Joe's because individuals go after the casino owners decendents and attempt to pry the chips loose at a very low price and make a finacial killing selling to the collecting community.
Don't misunderstand, I am not against individuals going after chips; nor buying the chips as low as possible. What I am against is the structured prices. Let me explain. When I wrote about Joe's chips there were only a few of each denomination known. The price was steep if and when one came on the market place for sale.
When the individuals I am referring too managed to buy the chips from Joe's wife; they bought the entire inventory. True, it was only a one table joint but most if not all the chips were accounted for. They came out at a price much higher than what you are selling for. It bothered me but I said to myself I would never make the mistake of drawing attention to these small out of the way places again.
Now you offer these pieces at a price lower than the previous one I was referring too. This is what I mean by structured pricing. Price A today. B tomorrow and C next week and D next month. All the while the price dropping to encourage more sales with no consideration for the people who bought at price A.
I am not saying you are part of this "plan". I am not saying you know anything about what I am describing. I just think it is important for people to know the facts. I have seen it done with many, many chips. I don't have to say which ones most everyone who reads this board knows them by heart.<g>
I just don't want you to get caught up with this one by accident. It isn't fun refunding money or giving your buyers credit. Take care - Jim
