MATH IGLER'S CASINO - NOT

Just a few days ago there was a question about the existence of a possible illegal Club in Chicago, called Math Igler's Casino. I recall pics of a match cover and possibly a trade coin being shown. Here is some of the story--as provided by my underpaid and overworked nephew, Mark Hallett, who is with the Chicago Trib. In short, it was a German Restaurant that began life in the 1920's. In a Trib story written in 1967 it featured singing waiters. The original owner, Math Igler retired in 1951 and his nephew, Math Pimpen and his family ran it thereafter. There is no indication that anything other than food [and entertainment]was ever served there. In 1953 the IRS raided it taking $152.66 from the cash register against a claim of back sales tax in the sum of $17,500+. Apparently, the restuarant survived.
