Plug and Play doesn't always see some drivers. I sure you tried this, did you reboot with the scanner on, plugged into the USB port?

Another way to load the driver is: (if you don't want to reboot)

Hold Down the Windows Key and Press the Pause/Break key - this will open the System Properties Screen.
Click on the Device Manager Tab
Single Click on the USB Controller (on the text)
Click on Refresh

This should load the driver.

The other common issue with "Plug and Play' devices are that the drivers may not be written for the version of the operating system that one is running.
I know that WIN98 and NT have some problems seeing some SCSI Scanners... The documentation that came with the scanner that you purchased should let you know the compatibility issues if any...
