My version of Photodeluxe and the HP scanning software doesn't seem to allow the selection of fewer colors. There is a selection in the final step of the scan that makes smaller color photograph scans, but it loses too much resolution. It's more than just a reduction in color bits.

I am pleased with the scans I get in terms of appearance on the screen or printer. I would like to know how to reduce the size further when there isn't need for all the colors. My chip scans are typically 50-60K. I've seen scans that take only about 7K. Still don't know how to achieve this. Possibly I need the full-blown Adobe package. Not willing put put out the several hundred dollars it costs at this stage, though.
