Mostly true, Larry. Europe is an ares with many
countries and languages. The translation for
"token" (what we call chips) are different in
France, different in Spain, different in Italy and
so on. We know of "jeton" only because French is a
the "second language" worldwide, and not because
it's called that throughout Europe, but because the
original manufacturers of gaming pieces were in
France and Germany and because all the early casinos
were in Frence (and French-speaking countries) and
Germany (and German-speaking countries). I guess
Germany picked it up from France, but I think
Germany had casinos first. If you were to go to chip
collector's websites in Germany, Belgium, italy,
Spain, France and....., you will see what they call
chips in their tongue. The whole gaming industry
(Internationally) is now accepting the word chip.
