I do not have much experience with counterfit 1,000's. IMO, they would be tough, if you watch someone cash them in, in Nv, I think you will see the cashier break the stack down so the camera can see all chips, in a stack. It also lets the cashier look at each chip.

If you have a Four Queens current $1 rack chip. Pull it out.
The scanned FQ's $100 was issued in 1989. In 1993 the FQ's cage cashed in 36, $1 FQ's chips that were altered good enough to pass for the scanned chip. Normally 4 or 5 a day mixed in a stack of 20 $100's. They were placed in the stack so none would come to the top in a 4 stack chip split. IMO, the altered chips were good enough to get by most cashiers even if they were cut to the top of a stack.
There was a mad scramble to get new $100's quick. Took Paul-Son a record 2 weeks to fill the order. All but 53 of the scanned chip were destroyed, resulting in it being a W rated $500 to $599 in TCR. Not bad for a 1989 chip.

The scam was caught when a head cashier was cutting chips to complete a rack. She needed 16 to fill the rack, and cut 3 stacks of 5, and 1 chip on top. It was the Joker!!! A poker person would have caught these much sooner. We are different than cage or pit people. We cut chips in 4's, 5's, or 6's (3 6's and a duece on top) whichever way the 1st stack falls. Cage and pit are taught only one way to gut chips.
Needless to say the Four Queens started breaking down stacks of $100 chips to 1 each, after the scam.
