Mark,
Where did you get your information(exactly)from telling you that $10 silver strikes are quote "they ARE solid silver and have a Gold Plating on the outer edges"?
As the resident expert and author of the Nevada Silver Premium Gaming Token Price guide, I MUST set you straight on the $10 Nevada Silver Premium Gaming tokens.
These tokens are NOT a SOLID silver piece. Please see the scan below of one that has been taken apart.
The Outer Ring is a highly polished SOLID BRASS metal. I can't tell you how many Outer Rings that I have seen that have turned "BROWN"! Gold plating just won't do that.
WE HAVE HAD THESE TOKENS ASSAYED!
Here's the results on the assay's of two(2) $10 Silver Strikes.
The outer ring of HRLV-1 weighed 12.25 DWT(pennyweights) (1/20 of a troy oz) and contained no precious metal.
The outer ring of GCLV-2 weighed 11.85 DWT(pennyweights) (1/20 of a troy oz) and contained no precious metal.
HRLV-1 Center weighed 11.98 DWT and contained 11.83 DWT .999 Silver. Actually the center was .9874 Fine Silver.
GCLV-2 Center weighed 11.63 DWT and contained 11.27 DWT .999 Silver. Actually the center was .9690 Fine Silver.
At the Spot Gold and Silver Prices on Fri 1/12/96 of $5.55 silver and $399.00 gold the following are the bullion values.
HRLV-1- 11.83 DWT =.5915Oz Troy .999 Fine Silver @$5.55=$3.28
GCLV-2- 11.27 DWT =.5635Oz Troy .999 Fine Silver @$5.55=$3.13
The HRLV-1 token is from the Hard Rock
The GCLV-2 token is from the Gold Coast
As a collector of these types of tokens since there inception, the first silver strikes were of the $7 and $28 varieties and WERE SOLID SILVER. Next came the $10 and $40 varieties of which the $40 tokens are SOLID SILVER, but the $10 varieties WERE NOT. This upset many collectors. I even went so far as to write the Nevada Gaming Commission to complain that they were allowing the makers of these tokens to stamp a metal that was NOT SILVER, ".999 FINE SILVER". The Gaming Commission made a ruling in 1996 that the manufacturers and the company that runs the Silver Strike program in Nevada that the .999 Silver inscription would be removed from the outer brass rings and moved onto the "SILVER CENTER INSERTS". At this time the transition to the new tokens has not been completed.
I regarding the issue of:
>>>Any casino will accept this tokens, As they will also accept ANY chips from the other casino's out here. i LIVE here, I PLAY here I do it all the time.>>>
Like Gene who works at the Fiesta Casino, I quote
Foreign silver strikes are not redeemed at casinos.
"Foreign" meaning issued by another casino.
Some do get taken in due to mistakes by cashiers.
I have found silver strikes come out of machines which do not belong to the casino where I am playing. I've also had cashier's find tokens from other casino's in their racks when looking for certain tokens for me. However, this is the EXCEPTION and not the rule.
If a cashier were to be noted "KNOWINGLY" redeeming these tokens from another casino I am sure they would be talked to by Management. I do believe that it's a Gaming Commission Regulation. Notice the regular slot machine tokens, they usually have the words Redeemable only by player at "such and such casino". However, usually slot machine play tokens can be put into any slot machine at any other casino so they get taken in by other casino's very easily.
I'm going to reply again to this message with a copy of the letter I received from the Nevada Gaming Commission regarding the $10 Nevada Silver Strikes, so you can see that even the Nevada Gaming Commission KNOWS that these tokens are NOT SOLID SILVER.
I just want to inform you of the exact composition of these silver strike tokens, which I perfer to call Silver Premium Gaming Tokens(SPT's). This is not an attack on your advertisement, although the statements you made are FALSE regarding them. I am sure it's just like other's I see and write to regarding these tokens. You've made a visual judgement regarding them without having seen or found the true and accurate information regarding them. It's not really a FAULT on your part as I tell many people, I blame the Manufacuter's of these tokens and the company responsible for the Nevada Silver Strike program, for FALSELY stamping a metal ".999 FINE SILVER" that contains NO SILVER CONTENT.
Especially the Manufacturer's as they KNEW EXACTLY what they were doing and Knew better!
