The most distinctive feature of the Christy and Jones H&C mold (#41) is the 'shiny hat'. That's what that half-light hat is supposed to represent in the symbol. Speculation is that Christy & Jones used either a finer clay that resulted in a smoother surface, or they polished the dies to make them smoother.
