Good Morning Paul,
I enjoyed your little write up "A must read for all Dealers/collectors/investors".
Being a former IRS field agent for over 28 years and federal gaming industry specalist from the state of Nevada I realize many who enjoy our hobby do not fully understand their responsibilities when it comes to reporting income from misc. chip sales. I am one of those individuals who likes to enjoy the hobby without throwing a "damper" on it or scaring basically honest people to death.<g>
Over the years I also enjoyed all the comments about how the little guy is hounded but the "big guys" get away with everything. Yeah, right!! Speaking with first hand experience - I will simply state it is not true and leave it go at that!
Also, I have always tried to refrain from giving advice in this area unless asked. If one thinks about it each individual is respnsible for his/her actions. They don't need me to remind them of their responsibilities.
I did not know you are a CPA. I assume you are licensed to practice in California. Since I am a CPA from Nevada perhaps I can talk you into attending the annual lunch hosted by the Nevada State Board of Accountancy and IRS. I think you would enjoy it. I have dealt with many California CPAs who represent clients here in Nevada. Many of them hold both state licenses. I do not have a license to practice in Californmia however, I have found your State board easy to get along with if I should enter California for business reasons. A simple phone call ususally does the trick.<VBG> If you are interested in expanding your license to Nevada let me know. Best, Jim
