... what difference does it make that your idea would make it dark at noon on one side of the world. People could just work during daylight hours anyway, even if they are 6 pm to 2 am.
And you're right about the calendar, too. If we have to have a seven day week (another one of our arbitrary calendar devices), why not have four of them in every month and have 13 months, for a total of 364 days in the year (who the hell cares if the Earth would be in a slightly different spot in its orbit and the beginning of every year).
In fact, to be completely logical about it, why not make the week 10 days instead of seven, with 10 weeks in every month and 10 months in every year. With a calendar like that, I'd be 19 again!! And we'd be about 270 years away from the end of the FIRST millennium.
