Re: Kinds of Auctions
In Response To: Kinds of Auctions ()

Thanks Don. Great post. Wasn't very long ago if I had something I wanted to sell I had a yard sale. Someone with a business and customers came by and bought my junk for pennies and sold it for big bucks. Unless I wanted to get into this business full time, I was pretty much shut out. As a buyer of hard to find items, I had to shop a lot and hope to get lucky.

Now, with the internet, the world is literally at my doorstep. I can find lots of great old chips to buy, and lots of buyers for my cheap old chips. I opened up a 12 pack of Diet Pepsi not long ago and found a Gold Yoda can. Before eBay, I'd have drank the Pepsi and sent the can in for my $20. Instead I sold it for $107.50! I'm happy. Some Star Wars collector is happy. Life is good!

Policing eBay to keep people from misrepresenting these clay disks we love is a good thing. Sharing information about the club to people that buy your chips is a good thing. Agonizing over whether reserve price auctions are fair is a bunch of hooie. Bid what you're willing to pay for something, pay what you bid without complaint if you win it, and get on with your life if you don't. If you don't like reserve price auctions, don't bid. It's called the free market system. It's the best system in the world.

I'll get down now before I get hit with one of those tomatoes.

The two most important things you said ...
to bid or not to bid (reserve)
