Hi Luke & Jim ----- can't see the scan, but if the plane is twin engine, propeller driven, with only the front half of the plane on the chip (angling down from upper right to lower left), the Jung-Pfaender CA guide attributes it to a California card room called Hanger #9 in Long Beach. Value of this denomination is listed as $30-40. Others are 5 cent (purple), 25 cent (red), 50 cent (no color listed), $5 (pink w/ 2 brown inserts) and $25 (green). All are large crown hot stamp chips.

Their note about these chips reads: "Order sent to Newport - Chips ended up in Simi Valley - For the American Legion - Rumors have placed this club - in several locations, but we - have found the true location".

For "Airport Club", they list Long Beach and say "See Listings under 'Hanger #9'", with the additional note: "some say Seal Beach or Simi".

I have 5 cent, 25 cent and $1 chips, obtained from a seller who attributed them to the Airport Club in Seal Beach. Also have the $5 chip from another seller who attributed it to the Airport Club with no location indicated.

Long Beach and Simi Valley are both near Los Angeles, though not particularly close to each other. Newport may refer to Newport Beach, which is in Orange County, south of LA. Seal Beach is also in Orange County, on the coast between Long Beach and Newport Beach. Bakersfield is north of Los Angeles. Mel Jung visits this board occasionally; perhaps he can provide additional information.
