... suits mold, gold hot stamp, obverse has anchor in the center surrounded by "S.S. Titanic Southhampton 1912", reverse has denomination (ten chips: $1, $5,$25 $100, $500, $1000, $5000, $10,000, $25,000 and $50,000). I have seen the same denomination in different colors, so don't think there's a uniform color scheme.
I paid $9 for a set of 10 and $6 for a set of 8 (w/o the two higher denominations) and was told by the seller of the 8 chip set that they were ordered by a private party who lives in Kansas City. I assume to capitalize on the Titanic craze.
Don't remember who I bought the 8 chip set from, but got the 10 chip set from an eBay seller named Jaxico (Jack Hertzog). Oddly enough, when he sent the chips, he also sent me a check for $10 with a note advising that I was the winner of a random giveaway that he conducted among his buyers. I had not been aware of his giveaway program and the check was a complete surprise. It was a real check, too, not a credit toward merchandise.
The chips are erroneous in two respects:
1) Titanic was an RMS (Royal Mail Steamer), not an SS (Steam Ship)
2) Titanic was British, not American, so any chips she might have carried in real life would certainly have been in pounds not dollars.
I understand from previous posts here that no chips were known to have been used on the Titanic. You are probably aware that the Trop AC recently issued a $10 Titanic Chip. ----- jim o\-S
