As I look at various Ebay auctions and hear about misleading ads, there is one beneficial aspect...I can form opinions about the seller's business philosophy, and make a decision about whether I want to do business with him/her at all.
I've had satisfactory transactions with probably 200-300 dealers and traders, mostly club members, over the years. But there are a a handful of dealers or members, or Ebay sellers, whom I choose not to do business with, even if a specific chip they are offering is accurately described and fairly priced. There aren't too many such dealers, and I won't name any names, but I think the first line of defense is to "vote with your feet" and just walk away from such dealers' tables (or their Ebay auctions, or direct-mail lists, etc.)
It's also important to inform and educate others, and lodge a complaint where warranted. I'm all for those actions too.
But I think the lack of sales will (or should) communicate to most sellers to re-think their sales philosophies. Just my opinions.
