For anyone intersted in illegal gambling and organized crime in California during the 1940s and early fifties, I have put two orgiginal California Crime Commission reports on eBay. One is from 1953 and the other from 1950. Both are very interesting and both name names and give addresses to some illegal bookie joints, casinos, brothels, etc. I am linking to one and just hit on my other auctions to see the other. They aren't cheap, but they are rare.
Also, there is a new book out called "Sins of the City" by Jin Heimann. Amazon has it. It is a book of photos from Los Angeles in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Includes photos of illegal gambling clubs such as the Clover Club (including an interior shot after a raid), gambling ships (very nice interior of the Rex) and old Gardena poker parlors and beachside Tango parlors. Some stuff about Mickey Cohen as well. Heimann wrfote "Out With The Stars," about Hollywood nightclubs in the golden age.
Cheers,
Russ
