Thanks, Greg! Jim almost had me feeling guilty for a moment there <GGG>! I think there is at least a reasonable perceptual difference between the authority of a pit boss and the authority of a house-keeper or a waitress. If the person at the hotel desk lets me keep my hotel key, or the person at the slot club desk gives me some blank cards, esp. of a style I am not entitled to as a player, they have taken the responsibility, not me. Of course, if I thought they were jeopardizing their jobs, my cricket says "don't even ask."
Now if the house-keeper were to "sell" me a towel in the hall outside my room, it would be reasonable of me to assume the casino is not going to see the money. Likewise if the pit boss wants to meet me in the parking lot to "exchange the goods." That would be much more akin to the dealer slipping me an extra $5 chip on purpose when changing my $100.
When the pit boss lays the chips out on the roulette table and tells the dealer to sell them to me, in front of God and cameras, I got no qualms.
