The generic horsheshoe on the back of the Hard Rock CAFE "medallion" was a common die used for sample chips made in 4 and 8 insert "slot machine" and $100 obverse. Some 32 colors of these were made to all casinos to choose their colors and inserts. That was back in the 70's when Harrahs , Harveys, etc were ordering their mass of chips. When the company was sold, these were passed on in the form of castings prior to the two or three final stages before injection. The new owner , Royce 600, finished some with marbelized colors and some with silver, brass, or gold leaf as trial samples we used at the 1996 and 97 World Gaming Expos. Some were one of a kind and were passed onto Dean Porter for his collection and exhibit. A few have been sold when there were duplicates. You will see the horseshoe logo (good luck) even used on some of the poker hand "toppers" used to prevent mucking of your down cards in hold'em and omaha games. These had Royal flushs' on the obverse and sold for upwards of $35 each. 4 were seen at the last Binions World series of poker. Guess where they got 'em from....yeh....I gave 4 to Jack Binion
