"k" usually stands for Killo which if the school teachers could have learned the system we would now be using. (Now don't send your cards & letters to me).
In computer terms "k" stands for 2 to the 10th power which really is 1,024.
So when they talk about the Y2K problem, a computer associated problem, they are incorrect, let alone the debate about when it starts.
Really Paul, by setting some of your parameters, which are probably all different for every scanner, you can cut down on the number of pixels (the dots that make up the picture) and save a lot of computer time. The screen can only show 72 dots per inch, so saving a scanned picture with 200,000 dots is a waste of resources.
