They are made of the modern equivalent of Indian beads (generically called "seed" beads because they look like small seeds).
They were handmade by none other than myself <g>, as usual, under the tutelage of my daughter, who is quite an expert in beading. See eBay lot 128864750 for an example of her work.
The beads are sewn to a cloth base, then mounted on a piece of round plastic to provide rigidity (hence, there are no "reverses" <g>). I actually have one more, but it hangs on a keychain in my truck, which youngest son is driving at the moment, so I can't scan it.
Since making these, I switched to aluminum disks as the backing, but have given away all of those made since as gifts to family members. Each of these took about 10 hours to make. And yes, I did make them specifically to be hand-made "poker" chips. The backing disks are 1 1/2 inches in diameter, though the beads themselves don't always fit precisely into a predetermined space! <g>
