Gene ----- I have 34 different and am missing five, six or eight, depending on what's really out there. So, there are 39, 40 or 42, total.
The three I am unclear about are the $2 & $10 Chinese New Years and the serially numbered $5 Western Gambling (Bat Masterson).
All of the Sonoma Joe's are Chipcos with common obverse except:
the 25¢ California Aces "rent" chip (L's mold with hot stamp "R"; I think this was a carry over from some other card room) [this one is listed in Jung-Pfaender, but not Eastman -- I know from personal observation that it was in use in California Aces, a non-house-banked variation of blackjack]
the Western Gambling chip, which was one of a set issued by 20 different CA cardrooms; these are Paul-son H&C wide-graphics
the five tournament chips, which are Unicorn mold hot stamps ($5 red, $20 white, $100 black, $500 green and $1000 purple) ---- I played in the tournament in which they were used for the first time, in 1995, but it never occurred to me to harvest any of them!
Previously, they used left-over chips from another cardroom for their tournament chips. Don't remember for sure, but may have been P&G Casino chips. Mel would probably know this, as he's familiar with the ownership history of these cardrooms (all owned by one or more of the same people).
The 1995 Thanksgiving chip, BTW, is an oversized hexagonal Chipco. Interesting chip.
Am attaching here a scan of the $100 North Bay Poker Tournament chip which I bought from Mel Jung during the convention. ----- jim o\-S
