Jim,
It's amazing how much we learn in parenting. When I was young and foolish I thought I had life nailed. I had a beautiful wife and my first child was a very easy child to raise. We adopted a son who is more inteligent than either parent. I found a few chinks in my armor. Our third child (son) came along, he has severe ADD. I then realized how little I knew.
The major lesson I was able to learn is not to mistake love for approval. The same principle goes for friends. Although sometimes we don't agree with or approve of everything others do, that doesn't mean we can't like and be friends with them. I would hope others feel the same toward me.
