Chris,
The Gaming table lists 92 different casino's that have been in Deadwood. Many have changed names or consolidated. I would guess there are 20 or so open Casino's in Deadwood. It is kind of like the Colorado towns. There seems to be a lot of turmoil as to exactly what they want to do. The $5 maximum betting limit hurts them too.
Deadwood is a great area to collect from. The chips are relativly reasonably priced (no deadwood chips priced at $1,000). The thing I like about it is that there are not Limited Editions coming out every other week, and a person has a feeling that with some work, time, and a little luck, a complete Deadwood set is not impossible to aquire.
I have seen an increased interest in Deadwood in the past year or two. Probably for the reasons mentioned above.
If I can help anyone with their Deadwood questions or needs, do not hesitate to contact me. I do not claim to be an expert, but it is one of my favorite areas to collect from.
