4-Queens 4th of July Chips -- ugly
In Response To: Re: 4-Queens 4th of July Chips ()

Hi Chuck ----- at the risk of upsetting my friend Chuck Smorse, I have to say I think the Coast Guard was better off NOT being represented on one of these UGLY chips. SO disappointing after the beautiful set of chips they issued for the 4th last year.

As ex-military myself (West Point & then 4 years in, yes, the NAVY), I nevertheless appreciate your frustration at the lack of recognition afforded the Coast Guard. I can confirm from personal experience that Coast Guardsmen have done their part in fighting our wars (well, my personal experience is limited to Vietnam, but I know they have been there for the others, as well).

The slight probably arises, at least in part, from the fact the Coast Guard is not represented on the Joint Chiefs of Staff (and the schizophrenic existence which has the Coast Guard under the Secretary of the Treasury in peacetime and the Secretary of the Navy in wartime; they do still do that, don't they?).

Has the Coast Guard ever been the subject of a casino chip? ----- jim o\-S
