I have no info on the relationship of the Trop with us but Steve Cutler's museum is now there and that could signal a change. While the Tropicana is not a place I prefer to play at when in my playing mode at Vegas, it certainly is in a prime spot for drop ins--which is one thing that attracts the casino group and it's a great place to wander away from to the nearby mega resorts.
