I once read an interesting description of "obverse and reverse" in Numismatic News. The writer suggesred that the side of the coin/token/medal with the bold bust or graphics; numeral, lettering, text, and embossment was the obverse, and the other side was the reverse.
Now, for as test: Flip a coin in the air and see which side it lands on. Heads or Tails. With heads being the obverse, of course! <g>
